Midtown, NY 10016 – 4 People Injured In Car Crash With Tractor-Trailer
On a Wednesday morning around 2 am, a Honda Civic crashed into a tractor-trailer after blowing through several red lights. The Civic was lodged underneath the cab of the rig and officials said the car must have been traveling at least 120 mph. Four people were transported to Bellevue Hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Long Island City, NY 11102 – 3 Workers Injured In Floor Collapse
Three men who were on the job at a construction site where injured when the floor of a building they were working on collapsed. One man, who had serious injuries, was able to remove himself from the rubble. The second man was removed fairly early in the rescue operation, while the third man was not able to be removed until later on, as he was trapped in the basement of the building. The contractor has been suspended from working in the city and has racked up 14 violations.

June 4, 2018 – Runner Sues Port Authority After Falling And Breaking Arm On George Washington Bridge
A regular marathon runner is suing the Port Authority after falling on a George Washington Bridge walkway that he claims was dangerously narrow. According to the $2 million lawsuit, there have been 39 cyclist-related accidents on the bridge between 2010 and 2016. On May 27, 2017, the man was going back to Manhattan after a training run when a group of cyclist crashed into him, knocking him to the ground and breaking his arm. His arm was broken on his dominant right side and he required surgery. The suit goes on to claim that the injury and surgery has resulted in “long-term impairment of the use of his arm, elbow, and wrist.”
May 8, 2018 – Elderly Woman Struck and Killed By Vehicle in Manhattan
An 85-year-old woman was struck and killed at the intersection of West End Avenue and 70th Street in Manhattan on Thursday, May 3. Witnesses and video told the same story: the woman was walking east in the crosswalk but crossing against the light when she was struck by a Jeep traveling northbound. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Authorities are investigating whether speeding may have played a role in the accident.
April 10, 2018 – Dozens Injured When Charter Bus Hits Overpass
38 students and 5 chaperones were injured after a charter bus crashed into an overpass on Long Island on Sunday, April 8. Six of the passengers suffered serious injuries, while 37 others suffered minor ones. All 43 injury victims were brought to local hospitals for treatment.
The accident happened on the Southern State Parkway in Lakeview at around 9 pm. The students were on their way home from John F. Kennedy International Airport when the bus smashed into the overpass, destroying the roof. One of the victims was trapped and had to be rescued by the Lakeview Fire Department.
March 13, 2018 – Five Passengers Killed When Helicopter Crashes Into East River
A helicopter crashed into the East River on March 11, killing all five passengers on board. The pilot survived the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the accident in order to determine if the pilot was at fault for the tragedy. The pilot told investigators that he believes a loose tether from a passenger harness cut off the fuel switch, leading to the crash.
According to the New York Post, one expert says that this explanation is “highly implausible”, and that it is more likely that the pilot activated the wrong lever.
One of the victims’ families has filed a lawsuit against the helicopter and charter companies involved in the crash, along with the pilot.
March 13, 2018 – Queens Woman Killed After Being Struck By School Bus
A 58-year-old woman was struck and killed by a school bus in Queens on Tuesday, March 13. She was crossing the street when the bus struck her after making a left turn at the corner of Kew Gardens and 82nd roads at around 6:45 am. There were three children on the bus when the accident occurred, but none were injured. The bus was a private mini-bus owned by Logan Bus Company. The accident is currently being investigated.
February 22, 2018 – Driver Of Stolen Car Causes Fatal Car Crash On Long Island
On February 14, around 11:30 am a multi-vehicle crash occurred on Route 25 on Long Island. The crash was caused by a 23-year-old driver of a stolen vehicle who had a 19-year-old passenger that died in the accident. Four vehicles collided in the crash, one vehicle being an oil truck, and one of the cars involved overturned and burst into flames. All four people that occupied the car that caught fire died, despite the efforts of one man who tried to free the driver from the burning vehicle. The oil truck driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Police are investigating the accident and do not believe that the stolen car was being pursued at the time of the accident.
January 8th, 2018 – NYPD Sergeant Charged After Fellow Cop Dies In Drunk Driving Accident
A sergeant for the NYPD is facing criminal charges after crashing his car in an accident that left his rookie cop passenger dead. Authorities have determined that the sergeant was drunk at the time of the accident. He’s been charged with vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving.
The two officers were traveling home from the NYPD firing range when the driver lost control of his vehicle, hit a tree stump, and flipped over. A fire was also sparked in the accident. Investigators determined that the sergeant was speeding at the time of the accident.
December 13th, 2017 – 6 Injured When Car Jumps Sidewalk In Lower Manhattan
The driver of a Lincoln Continental sparked an accident that left at least 6 injured in Lower Manhattan on Thursday, December 7th. The accident happened around 1:20 p.m. when the Lincoln collided with a Ford Explorer at Broadway and Liberty Street, near Zuccotti Park. The Lincoln then struck and injured a cyclist.
The Continental didn’t stop and jumped over the curb and onto the sidewalk, striking three pedestrians. The vehicle continued to speed down the street before crashing into the back of a third vehicle and jumped onto the sidewalk again.
All victims were brought to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The police believe that the accident may have been caused by a medical emergency.
November 29th, 2017 – Tour Bus Crashes In Times Square
Three people were hospitalized after a double-decker tour bus collided with a meat truck in Times Square on Wednesday, November 29th. The City Sights Bus crashed into the back of a Pat LaFrieda meet purveyor truck at around 9 a.m. on West 46th Street.
No one was seriously injured in the accident, but three people were sent to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
October 30th, 2017 – 9 Injured After Drunk Driver Crashes Moving Truck Into 7 Vehicles In Hell’s Kitchen
A drunk driver with felony convictions for dealing guns crashed a rental box truck into seven vehicles in Hell’s Kitchen on Sunday, October 22nd. Four people were seriously injured in the incident, along with five others with relatively minor injuries (including the driver). Two of the seven vehicles were occupied at the time of the incident.
The accident occurred at around 1:40 p.m. at the intersection of Tenth Ave. and W. 43rd St. After the collision, the driver exited the vehicle and attempted to steal an FDNY firetruck, which was occupied by a firefighter. A mob of several firefighters rushed to the truck, reached inside, and pulled the drunk driver out in a struggle. The driver slammed one firefighter’s head and body into the truck’s front console.
The driver was charged with felony reckless endangerment and assault, drug-impaired driving, drug possession, and refusing to take a breath test.
September 7, 2017- Car Accidentally Crashes Into A Laundromat On Staten Island
A car accidentally crashed into a New York City coin laundromat on Sunday, September 3, 2017. According to authorities, the 74-year-old driver of the car accidentally accelerated forward when he thought he was in reverse. Video security footage shows the car slowly backing out of a parking spot opposite the laundromat and then it speeds up and crashes through the glass. The accident left six people injured, three of whom suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries, and the other three suffered minor injuries.
August 24, 2017- Truck Accident In Tribeca Leaves 88-Year-Old Woman Seriously Injured
A truck accident in Tribeca recently left an 88-year-old woman seriously injured. The woman was struck by a truck that was attempting to make a left turn as she was crossing Franklin St.at Church St. in the afternoon. The dump truck that struck her was heading east on Franklin and made a left turn to go north on Church. Police reported that the accident left the woman with a serious leg injury as well other trauma that was not immediately known. She was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. The truck driver stayed on the scene of the accident and there were no immediate arrests made.
July 7, 2017- SUV And MTA Crash Injures 12 People
Earlier this month, a 58-year-old livery cab driver struck a Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) bus and injured 12 people in total. The driver was headed westbound on 125th when he rear-ended the MTA bus. The Cadillac Escalade ended up mounting the sidewalk and struck two pedestrians. The driver and other bus passengers, as well as a police officer, were among the injured. The driver was the one who suffered the most injuries and he had to be extricated from his vehicle by FDNY and NYPD crews. All the victims were taken to Harlem Hospital and are expected to survive.
June 2, 2017- U.S. Navy Skydiver Dies In Parachuting Accident
A U.S. Navy skydiver died on Sunday May 28th, after his parachute malfunctioned while he was performing in an aerial exhibition. The exhibition was part of New York Harbor’s annual Fleet Week Festival. The skydiver was a member of the U.S. Navy’s elite skydiving demonstration team. He was pulled out from the water close to the mouth of the Hudson River soon after the accident happened. The accident was seen by thousands of show watchers from Liberty State Park in New Jersey City. The skydiver was pronounced dead at the Jersey City Medical Center.
May 5, 2017- Off-Duty NYPD Traffic Agent Charged With Killing Backseat Passenger
An off-duty NYPD traffic agent has been charged with killing his backseat passenger. The traffic agent was driving 111 mph when his car split in two during a terrible crash on the Williamsburg Bridge. The prosecutor reported that he had his foot “100% on the acceleration” of his Infiniti sedan which led to him losing control and crashing into a divider. The passenger in his car was celebrating her 21st birthday on the day her body split in two along with the car. Security footage obtained for the case showed that the agent had been drinking for three hours before the accident happened.
April 24, 2017- Deadly DUI Leads To Manslaughter Charge
Following a December 2016 accident in Waterford, Connecticut, a Colchester woman has been charged with DUI manslaughter. The woman was involved in a serious car crash on December 26th that resulted in a 24-year-old woman getting killed in the wreck, and other people getting injured. The woman was drunk driving and was charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs, and reckless driving among other things. According to police reports, the driver was driving at 60 MPH in a 35 MPH zone, with a blood alcohol content that was over three times the legal limit.
March 29, 2017- Residents File Lawsuit Against Town Over Landfill Exposure
Nearly 60 residents have filed a lawsuit against the town of Wheatfield, NY including seven companies involved in dumping hazardous waste at the closed Niagara Sanitation Landfill. The lawsuits allege that the parties being sued did not do enough to solve the effects of chemicals in waste brought from the former Love Canal landfill. Complainants were concerned about contaminants such as pesticides, volatile organic compounds, and heavy metals. The plaintiffs are seeking monetary damages for personal injury and property damage, including establishing a fund for ongoing medical monitoring.
February 13, 2017- Woman Falls To Her Death At World Trade Center
A 29-year-old New Jersey woman fell almost 30 feet to her death from an escalator inside the World Trade Center Oculus. According to sources, the woman was trying to catch her twin sister’s hat which fell off while they were riding the escalator. She subsequently fell to the marble floor on the main concourse. She was transported to Bellevue hospital where she was pronounced dead. The tragic accident left questions about the safety measures that could and should have been taken such as adding safety rails or glass walls inside the center.
January 4, 2017- NYC Train Accident Leaves 100 People With Minor Injuries
On Wednesday, January 4, 2017, more than 100 people suffered minor injuries following a Long Island Rail Road train accident. The accident took place when the train hit a bumping block at Brooklyn station. According to fire officials, metal from a rail pierced the bottom of the train causing the wheels to lift up. The crash damaged a work area beyond the tracks. Eleven people were taken to different hospitals.
December 21, 2016- NY Truck Driver Charged In Accident Involving Schoolbus And Pickup
A driver driving a U.S. Xpress tractor-trailer from NYC was recently charged with failure to maintain control of his vehicle. He caused a multiple-vehicle accident that involved a Morgan County school bus as well as a pickup truck. Police charged the truck driver for hitting the pickup after the driver had stopped for a school bus dropping off students. The children on the school bus were not injured but, the driver and two passengers in the pickup truck needed medical treatment.
October 16th, 2016 – Responders Rush Car Accident Victim To Hospital
After a black Chrysler 300 smashed into a livery cab and a parked Subaru, emergency responders determined that the driver of the Chrysler was in cardiac and respiratory arrest and rushed him to the ER where he is in critical condition. An investigation has yet to determine if the cardiac arrest caused the crash. For more information on this check out New York Daily News.
