Elderly Woman Fatally Struck By Vehicle While Walking Home In Bronx
A 50-year-old man is facing criminal charges after he struck and killed an 82-year-old Bronx woman in a hit-and-run accident on Friday, October 6th.
Hilda Arocho was returning home after working to compile hurricane relief packages when she was struck by a white Dodge cargo van at Pitman Avenue in the Wakefield section of the Bronx at around 9:30 p.m. She was brought to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi where she was pronounced dead.
Neighbors told the media that they’ve created petitions for stop signs and speed bumps because of excessive speeding near the scene of the accident.
The driver turned himself into police on Saturday morning and has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
NYPD Officer Seriously Injured In Scooter Accident
An NYPD cop was critically injured while riding a department scooter to the Bronx Columbus Day parade, where he was scheduled to work on Sunday morning.
The officer was attempting to turn left onto East Tremont Avenue when a woman driving a Mercedes C240 crashed into his tire. He finished his turn, but crashed into the front driver’s side of a black Chevy Silverado pickup truck, before flying into the air and landing on top of a silver Nissan Rogue.
The cop suffered a severe break in his leg. Another police officer claimed that the break was the worst he had ever seen and was worried his colleague may never walk again. The officer injured in the crash was taken to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment of a non-life-threatening compound fracture to his left ankle.
13 Children Injured When 2 School Buses Collide In Bronx
Over a dozen schoolchildren were sent to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries after two charter buses crashed into each other on Tuesday, October 10th.
The accident occurred near 149th Street and Grand Concourse in Mott Haven at around 4:30 p.m. The children were students of Family Life Academy Charter School, which includes kindergartners through 8th-grade students.
The 13 injured children were brought to Lincoln Medical Center for injury treatment.
Motorcyclist Dies In Fatal Traffic Accident In Long Island
A motorcyclist died after striking the passenger side of a car in Long Island on Friday, October 6th.
The 34-year-old man was traveling eastbound on the Southern State Parkway when he allegedly crashed into the passenger side of a car. He exited the roadway and allegedly struck a guardrail on the south shoulder. Both the driver and his passenger were ejected from the motorcycle.
They were both transported to Winthrop University Hospital, where the driver was pronounced dead and his passenger was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
